SINGAPORE (EDGEPROP) - Perennial Holdings has unveiled plans for China’s first Alzheimer’s care-focused integrated healthcare development on July 26. The development, Perennial Alzheimer’s Care Village Xi’an (PACVX), is located in the Zhouzhi Louguan Eco Cultural Tourism Resort Zone, a 80-minute drive away from the Xi’an city centre in Shaanxi Province.
The total investment cost of PACVX is estimated at RMB128 million ($26.3 million). It spans a land area of 462,850 sq ft and a built-up area of 410,000 sq ft. The development is surrounded by scenic lakes, mountains, gardens and cultural attractions.

It will comprise the country’s largest dementia care home as well as a nursing care hospital, a rehabilitation hospital and an international eldercare research institute. The dementia care home is expected to be operational in 2023, with over 400 beds. PACVX is expected to house 700 beds upon completion. Other components at PACVX will be completed progressively.
“PACVX is expected to raise the bar for Alzheimer’s care in the country. It has a dedicated Alzheimer’s multidisciplinary team of medical professionals, and specially designed spaces to allow Alzheimer’s residents to live in normalcy in a protected environment,” says Khoo Chow Huat, the CEO of healthcare at Perennial.
Communal spaces at the dementia care home will be designed to incorporate familiar places which residents may visit on a daily basis, such as a supermarket, grocery store or a post office.
A dedicated multi-disciplinary team made up of neurologists, geriatricians, rehabilitation therapists, traditional Chinese medicine physicians, psychiatrists, nutritionists, and nurses will care for the residents based on individual needs to build a customised care plan.
China has more than 15 million seniors (aged 60 and above) suffering from dementia, in addition to over 38 million seniors (aged 60 and above) struggling with mild cognitive impairment in 2021. The number of seniors with dementia in the country is expected to reach 29 million by 2050, according to the China Research for Aging.
With PAVCX, Perennial will have close to 50 healthcare and eldercare facilities with 11,000 operating beds across more than 10 cities in China.
