Marriott International to manage South Beach Hotel

South Beach Consortium has appointed Marriott International to manage its South Beach Hotel. It will be renamed JW Marriott Singapore South Beach and begin operations in November. The hotel is currently undergoing some modifications to bring it in line with Marriott International’s requirements and will be completed by end-October. Renovations are being made to the restaurants, spas and lobbies.
“We are going to spend over $20 million to make alterations to South Beach Hotel to meet JW Marriott’s requirements,” says Kwek Leng Beng, executive chairman of Hong Leong Group and City Developments.
Separately, Hong Leong Group has also appointed Marriott International to manage its upcoming hotel, which will be part of a mixed-use development located at the former Boulevard Hotel site along Orchard Boulevard. The development will include two 28-storey residential towers, with a total of 154 units and an eight-storey boutique hotel. The 190-room hotel will be called The Singapore EDITION.
The hotel is expected to open its doors in 2019, while the residential towers are slated for completion in 2022. The project will be developed by Granmil Holdings, a joint venture between Hong Leong Holdings, City Developments and Lea Investments, a subsidiary of Goodwood Park Hotel.
The former Boulevard Hotel site was jointly acquired by Hong Leong Holdings and Khoo Teck Puat’s family in 1997 for $410 million from Hotel Malaysia.
