Grand Copthorne Waterfront reopens after $30 mil revamp

The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, part of Millennium Hotels and Resorts, has opened its doors after a nine-month-long renovation that cost $30 million. The refreshed five-star hotel, with a total of 574 guestrooms and suites, features expanded conference facilities, upgraded public spaces, and more eco-friendly spaces.
The hotel is located at 392 Havelock Road along the Singapore River and attracts business and leisure travellers. Millennium Hotels and Resorts is a global brand under Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, the hotel arm of mainboard-listed property conglomerate City Developments.
“This is a timely refresh for Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, particularly as MICE [meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions] travel resumes normalcy and in-person events return to the agenda,” says Kwek Eik Sheng, executive director of Millennium Hotels and Resorts.

He adds that the demand for greener events has also increased, with corporate planners preferring hotels with strong sustainability features and initiatives. “We are well positioned to capture this fast-growing MICE market, and increase our competitive edge.”
The forefront of the renovation are 33 versatile function rooms across three floors. Eco-conscious practices are evident throughout with the use of recyclable and biodegradable stationery, filtered drinking water replacing bottled water, and a linen-less table set-up.
Guestrooms also feature an in-room water filter, which the hotel group says will reduce single-use plastic waste from bottled water consumption by 20%. “We have incorporated innovative and high-efficiency technology that reduces electricity and water consumption, installed eco-friendly features such as in-room water dispensers,” says Andy Tan, senior vice president of global operations and partnership at Millennium Hotels and Resorts.
