Frasers Property (FPL) is partnering SP Group to install close to 4,500 sqm (48,437.6 sq ft) of solar panels across seven of FPL’s retail and commercial properties in Singapore. The seven properties are Alexandra Technopark, Causeway Point, Century Square, Hougang Mall, Northpoint City (North Wing), Tampines 1 and White Sands.
A partnership agreement was inked between both parties on April 9. SP will manage the design, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of the solar photovoltaic (PV) system at FPL’s properties.
The move, which is the largest solarisation roll-out for retail malls in the country to date, is expected to save FPL about $220,000 annually in energy costs. The panels, projected to generate about 920,000 kWh of electricity a year, will also reduce over 370 tonnes of carbon emissions yearly, which is the equivalent of removing 80 cars from the road. The panels will supply an average of 2% of the energy needs of the participating buildings.

The partnership is said to help FPL on its journey to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. It is also part of the group’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) goal to install 215MW of renewable energy capacity at its properties by 2030.
After the completion of the initiative, FPL will have a total of 14,250 sqm of solar panels across 10 of its owned and managed retail and commercial properties in Singapore. This would result in about 1.9 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to powering 935 four-room HDB flats.
The panels are to be installed by the end of 2024.
“This latest collaboration with SP Group in the solarisation programme across seven of our retail and commercial properties underscores FPL’s commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2050 and is aligned with the nation’s solar power deployment target of at least 2,000 megawatt-peak by 2030,” says Soon Su Lin, CEO of Frasers Property Singapore.
“This marks another chapter in our fruitful partnership with SP Group, as we work closely with them on other energy saving solutions at our properties such as Singapore’s first brownfield distributed district cooling network in Tampines,” she adds. “In support of Singapore Green Plan 2030, we will innovate continuously to build more sustainable, inclusive and healthy spaces for all.”
S. Harsha, group managing director of sustainable energy solutions at SP, says the installation of the rooftop solar PV systems across FPL’s properties is a “continuation” of the long-term collaboration between both parties.
“From sustainable cooling to harnessing renewable energy, we are committed to enabling FPL to achieve its net-zero carbon emissions target through our suite of solutions,” he adds.
