The Commodore, by JBE Holdings, is the newest condominium in the Canberra area (PICTURES: JBE HOLDINGS)
Setting sail in the Canberra and Sembawang region is its newest condominium, The Commodore. Developed by JBE Holdings, the development is set to be completed by December 2024 and its design is inspired by the prestigious customs of the naval officer corps of the various Commonwealth navies that used to dock in the area.
The name of the condo references the post of Commodore Superintendent of the Royal Navy Dockyard, which was the highest Commonwealth naval officer appointment in Singapore at the time. He oversaw the naval base and dockyard that historically dominated the Sembawang and Canberra areas. The traditional residence of the Commodore Superintendent was the former Admiralty House, a grand 4ha estate that was built in 1939 and still stands at Old Nelson Road off Canberra Road.
Drawing inspiration from this high-ranking appointment, The Commodore exudes the same high standards and premium sensibilities that would have characterised most high-ranking British naval officers. This sense of confidence, sophistication, and prestige drives the design and lifestyle that the developer has built into The Commodore. For example, the exterior of the development features curtain walling, a design choice that usually marks premium private residential developments. A dark colour scheme consistent throughout the condo also reflects the architectural prestige and mature design.
Connectivity and amenities
Today, both the Canberra and Sembawang residential areas are up-and-coming new towns with a range of transport connections and community amenities available to residents.
Residents of The Commodore will be able to enjoy different modes of getting around, such as by public transport, car, or even cycling. Residents can easily access the public transport network via Canberra MRT Station on the North-South Line, a three-minute walk to The Commodore. The development is also close to Canberra Plaza, the community hub that serves the area, as well as Northpoint City Mall, the integrated development connected to Yishun MRT Station that is one stop away.
Road connectivity will be further enhanced when the North-South Corridor is completed in 2027. The Commodore’s proximity to the new road network means that residents can conveniently travel by car to all parts of the island, right down to the CBD.
Families with school-going children will also find the development attractive given its proximity to nearby primary schools, such as Sembawang Primary School.
For the nature lovers, green spaces and park connectors are conveniently located throughout Canberra and Sembawang. Jalan Sendudok Park is located beside the development, and nearby parks include Canberra Park and Sembawang Park. A side gate from the development will also lead residents to the Canberra Park Connector, which links up to the other park connectors that make up the Northern Explorer Loop.
Premium designs and fittings
The design of The Commodore was inspired by the prestige and high station that was reflected in the post of Commodore Superintendent in Singapore, and the developer has brought in a wide range of premium fittings and finishes for each unit type.
The 99-year leasehold development consists of six 5-storey blocks with a total of 219 units. It offers one- to five-bedroom units, including premium configurations for the two- to five-bedroom units that feature a study room.
For buyers that value a larger living space, one of the residential blocks will comprise only four- and five-bedroom units. It will also be the only block where each unit is served by a private lift.
The development will also offer 24 penthouse units of two- to five-bedroom layouts. Each unit will feature a double-volume ceiling above the living room, creating a palatial atmosphere that will enhance its luxurious setting.
Each unit comes with engineered wood flooring based on sturdy American walnut wood for the bedrooms, while easy-to-manage Italian tiles are laid on the living and kitchen areas.
The developer has also sourced a wide range of premium fittings and finishes from international brands. For example, the fridge and the washer/dryer machines are quality Samsung products, and the kitchen countertops feature Silestone quartz by leading manufacturer Cosentino. The kitchen also comes fitted with a Blanco sink and Blum fitted drawers, while the hood, kitchen hob, and oven come from Bosch.
The bathrooms feature Hansgrohe sanitary fittings such as showerheads and taps, while the toilet bowl and washbasin are from Villeroy & Boch.
A Yale digital door lock is also affixed to the main door, and a number of other smart home features can be found with each unit.
A home that has it all
The design of the site and the choice of condo facilities available adds to the development’s overall prestigious ambience and premium architecture.
The centre of the development features a 50m lap pool with a luxurious clubhouse directly positioned at one end. A swimming pool of this size is rarely found in private residential developments in this neighbourhood. The clubhouse also features a double-volume ceiling and a co-working space.
Other amenities such as the spice garden pavilion, lounge, and bar are situated in cosy alcoves, offering a private retreat for residents. A dedicated area for children features a tree house and activity room.
Overall, The Commodore is a unique new launch in the Canberra neighbourhood. Its range of premium fittings and finishes harkens back to the prestigious naval heritage of the area, while its amenities and connectivity ensures the best of what modern life has to offer, making The Commodore a prestigious residence that has it all.
