The 21,528 sq ft plot of land was previously awarded to Eternal Pure Land, a subsidiary of funeral service firm Life Corporation. The company had the intention to run a Chinese temple and a columbarium on the site. The agreement was later cancelled in May following controversy arising from a commercial entity profiting from land slated for religious development.
