Updated, Jan 15, 2018, 6:46 p.m., to change details of M&L Hospitality's portfolio, and to change the number of hotels in the portfolio from 18 hotels to 15.
Singapore-based real estate investment firm M&L Hospitality opened West Hotel Sydney on Jan 12. The property is a premium independent hotel operated under the Curio Collection label by Hilton Hotels & Resorts.
The 182-room West Hotel Sydney marks M&L Hospitality’s third hotel in Sydney (after the 892-room Hyatt Regency Sydney, the biggest hotel in Australia to date, as well as the 369-room Swissotel Sydney) as well as its sixth in Australia, including Melbourne and Perth.
West Hotel Sydney is located along Sussex Street near the Darling Harbour waterfront as well as the new Barangaroo commercial and leisure precinct. It is designed by Australian architectural practice Fitzpatrick and Partners, with interiors by famous Australian-based architectural firm Woods Bagot.
“Corporate and leisure travellers are demanding a distinctly different hotel stay, with many opting for a boutique, personalised and well-located hotel experience,” says Neil Maxwell, CEO of M&L Hospitality. “West Hotel Sydney’s prime location and strong design will provide these travellers with a unique hotel experience in a Sydney CBD location.”
Since 2009, M&L Hospitality, a subsidiary of the Kum family-controlled Grandline International, has acquired a portfolio of 15 hotels valued at $2.7 billion. It includes the Ibis on Bencoolen in Singapore, five assets in the UK, one in Belgium and two in the Netherlands.
