London-based studio PLP Architecture has designed the first research laboratory dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) research and development in Shanghai, China.

The 510,209 sq ft lab was built for the World Laureates Association Science Community and commissioned by Parkland Group, a China-based real estate developer.

PLP designed the lab alongside a team of consultants in collaboration with global sustainable development consultancy Arup and architectural design institute Arcplus Institute of Shanghai Architectural Design & Research.

The facility sits within Shanghai's Lingan New Area global research and development district. It features a super lab for physical simulations, specialist labs for diverse technological experiments, data centres, and general labs focused on human well-being.

PLP has designed two projects in Singapore. One is the 54-unit freehold luxury residential development Park Nova on Tomlinson Road in Orchard, which is designed with biophilic elements. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The architectural firm is also designing the new Clifford Centre, a commercial development at 24 Raffles Place. The building in the CBD has been undergoing demolition and redevelopment works since 2023
