Global hospitality company Pan Pacific Hotels Group has added Gurney Bay Hotel in Penang, Malaysia, to its portfolio. The new 368-key hotel will operate under the group’s Parkroyal brand and is the seventh of its hospitality properties in Malaysia, following the opening of Parkroyal A’Famosa Melaka Resort in February.
The group will take over operations of the existing Gurney Bay hotel and embark on a phased soft renovation starting Sept 1. The hotel is located along Gurney Bay (formerly Gurney Drive) along the Penang coastline, with views of the sea and Georgetown.
Choe Peng Sum, CEO of Pan Pacific Hotels, says that the Gurney Bay Hotel, located close to Georgetown city centre, will complement the Parkroyal Penang Resort in the beachfront area of Batu Ferringhi. The two hotels will benefit from the expansion of Penang International Airport, which will be Malaysia's second-largest airport after Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
