Global hospitality player Hyatt Hotels Corp has partnered with Singapore-based property developer SingHaiyi to open the Hyatt Regency Samarafushi Maldives, an all-villa resort.

"We have selected Hyatt because of its established reputation and leadership in the hospitality industry," says Gallant Tang, executive director of SingHaiyi, at the signing ceremony on September 26. "We are excited to collaborate with Hyatt to develop a resort which will embody the elements of the Hyatt Regency brand that guests appreciate."

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Singapore, Mohamed Luveiz, says the resort is a significant addition to the island state's portfolio. "Maldives' infrastructure is expanding rapidly, starting with the Valena International Airport," he says in a speech at the signing ceremony. "With the new runway already in use, a recently-opened plane terminal and upcoming domestic airport infrastructure, we hope to enable better connectivity across the Maldives and open new doors for travellers."

The upcoming Hyatt Regency resort is 25 minutes away via speedboat from the Valena International Airport in the capital of Malé.

The resort will have 130 villas spread across 10ha of land. The villas are a mix of beachfront, treetop, and overwater, with a private pool for each. The property is targeted to open in 2027.

It marks Hyatt Regency's flagship property in the Maldives and Hyatt's third in the island state. The addition of Hyatt Regency Saramafushi will bring the portfolio of Hyatt Regency branded hotels to 80 across Asia Pacific, including Bali, Phuket, and Sydney.

For SingHaiyi, the Hyatt Regency Saramafushi resort will be its second property in the Maldives. Its first is the 120-villa resort Grand Park Kodhipparu Maldives.
