How to add charm to your home? How to solicit a chorus of oohs and aahs from your friends and family?
Answer: Show off your precious collection creatively.
The owner of this two-bedroom unit in Evergreen View in Geylang did exactly just that. When he engaged interior design firm Distinct Identity Pte Ltd to renovate his home, his primary concern was efficient space planning because he needed ample square footage to display his most favourite things: cartoon character collectibles.
His soft spot for cartoon characters resulted in a collection that includes Peanuts comic strip characters Charlie Brown, Lucy van Pelt, and Snoopy; Hello Kitty dressed in different costumes; Winnie the Pooh and friends Tigger and Eeyore; Garfield; Looney Tunes superstars Tweety and Sylvester; and Furby in various colours.
Designers from Distinct Identity Pte Ltd made sure the unit would look spacious by painting the walls and detailings in white, and using the same colour for the floor and the ceiling.
Aside from implementing an impressive space plan, the designers also installed a special feature wall in the living room. Featuring pixel-like designs, this feature wall also has clear storage for other knick knacks.
To neatly store and display his beloved finds, Distinct Identity made use of platforms and cabinets so that they’re all housed together. This dedicated area features a platform, glass cabinet in candy red, and floor-level storage spaces.
Walls, ceiling, flooring, and even seating furnishings all washed in white create the illusion of a bigger space in this 1,000-sq-ft condo unit in Geylang. The texture and 3D effects on the wall add visual interest without adding too much colour, which is perfect for homeowners who prefer a monochromatic look.
The wavy cutouts by the entryway acts as a grounder, separating one area from another.
Green elements were factored in the space planning of this home. A vertical garden and water add a touch of nature in this urban enclave.
Whereas the living room is all about cartoon creations and colours, the master’s bedroom goes for a contemporary minimalist look. This area receives generous amount of natural light, courtesy of the wide glass windows.
Even the other bedroom in all its simplicity is bathed in sunlight.
This condominium unit gets its unique charm from the cartoon character items displayed in the living room...and still manages to look contemporary by keeping the rest of the home bathed in neutral tones and styled with clean, straight lines. It's a classic case of marrying your life's passions and great interior design.
