Two prime commercial shophouses have been offered for sale by expression of interest. They are located on 18 Sago Street and 201 South Bridge Road (right), in the Chinatown historic district of Kreta Ayer and Telok Ayer. The shophouse on 18 Sago Street has three storeys and change-of-use approval has been obtained to turn it into a backpackers’ hostel, with a café on the ground floor. Sago Street is gazetted as a pedestrian mall and is linked to Trengganu and Pagoda Streets, which have been turned into the famed Chinatown Street Market.
The 2½-storey shophouse on 201 South Bridge Road sits between the Chinatown and Telok Ayer MRT stations and is close to the CBD core. It is suitable for conversion into a boutique office, with additional public parking spaces in the rear of the building, according to Savills. The indicative selling price for the property on Sago Street is $10 million, while that for the shophouse on South Bridge Road is $8 million. The expression of interest will close on March 31.
