Property developer Capital World announced on Jan 15, the launch of its Capital City Project in Johor, featuring Malaysia’s biggest theme park concept.
Expected to commence operations in 2018, Capital City’s indoor theme park will also be one of the top five largest indoor theme parks in the world. It will also comprise a shopping mall, the project will occupy a gross floor area of 1.2 million sq ft in total.
Located along Jalan Tampoi – 15 minutes away from Woodlands Causeway and 30 minutes away from Senai International Airport – the theme park will include several theme attractions, including Movie Planet, Cartoon Planet and Music Planet.
Visitors can expect to see movie scenes and cartoon characters brought to life through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology, as well as experience a combination of circus, theatrical and musical performances played out on stage.
The group has also signed a number of lease agreements with international and local brands, ranging from F&B to consumer products.
With Johor’s economy shifting from manufacturing to services in recent years, Capital World says the state government is keen to further grow the tourism industry in Johor by leveraging on its strategic location and transforming Johor Bahru into a family-friendly travel destination.
“We believe the indoor theme park will be able to draw greater footfall to our mall as Capital City will be transformed into a one-stop entertainment hub and shopping haven in the heart of Johor Bahru,” says Siow Chien Fu, executive director and CEO of Capital World.
“With this, Capital City is poised to be one of the key tourist attractions in Johor with its offering of the 315-room Hilton Garden Inn, 630 units of hotel-style serviced suites and 690 units of serviced apartments,” he adds.
