SINGAPORE (EDGEPROP) - Singapore-based start-up Staytion will open a chain of “multi-concept lifestyle” spaces targeted at MRT stations around the island. The idea is to provide a one-stop location where commuters can work, meet, dine and shop. The first Staytion outlet opened at the Marsiling MRT Station on Sept 28.

In a Sept 27 press release, the company plans “to reinvent and transform the familiar MRT station environment into a more productive and innovative space near their homes, with reliable wi-fi and focus spaces such as meeting nodes, cosy reading nooks and cafés.”

The first outlet is a 2,992 sq ft space that offers a 30-seater co-working space, including private offices and meeting spaces. The outlet also provides amenities like coffee and printing facilities.

Users can choose to book desks or a private office through the company’s real-time digital platform. A search on its website shows rates starting from $4.90 per hour or $29 daily for a desk.

There are also membership options available, including a “lite” membership package that includes four full-day visits per month and the usage of a meeting room for one hour. An “unlimited” membership gives you access, usage of meeting rooms for five hours and complimentary printing amenities (capped at 30 black and white pages and 10 colour pages). All members will also be entitled to unlimited daily drinks and 10% off F&B offerings.

Staytion says it will offer a 50% discount on all memberships as part of an opening promotion. Its website currently lists $49 per month for “lite” memberships and $299 per month for the unlimited plan.

More outlets in the pipeline

Staytion says two more outlets will open at the Woodlands and Paya Lebar MRT Stations by the end of the year. It also has plans to launch a “collective lifestyle centre” at the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, to open later this year.

The centre will offer a lounge for commuters to enjoy the lifestyle and F&B offerings like SaladStop!, Kith Café, Takagi Ramen, LuxeStyle and agritech company Singrow’s first-in-Singapore urban farm mart.

Staytion CEO Jane Toh says the company intends to introduce commuters to a reinvented lifestyle space within the familiar environment of the MRT station. “We want to offer more choices for the daily commuter who wishes to meet, answer their emails on the go, or grab a coffee while taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the daily commute,” she adds.

The company’s lifestyle spaces are designed in collaboration with homegrown design practice Farm, whose work includes projects at SMRT’s headquarters at Tanjong Katong Road, The Clan Hotel on Cross Street, Wanderlust at Dickson Road and 88 Armenian, located within the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site in Penang.
